New York, (May 23, 2018) – Lighthouse Guild is offering an elearning course for social workers titled, “Understanding and Addressing Vision Loss.”  The program provides information on the psychosocial impact of vision loss and reviews psychosocial assessments that help identify those who are having difficulty coping. The two-hour online course also offers tips for effective communication, referral and follow-up with patients experiencing vision loss, including facilitating low vision support groups.  


  • Learn about the impact of vision loss on patients’ health, mental heath, daily activities, social participation and overall quality of life.
  • Learn strategies to help patients address vision loss and improve their ability to accomplish daily activities.
  • Learn how to identify patients with vision loss, talk with patients about vision loss, and conduct psychosocial assessments.
  • Learn about vision rehabilitation services, including tips for running a vision loss support group.

The program is approved by the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) for 2 continuing education contact hours.


It is pre-approved by The Commission for Case Manager Certification for continuing education credit to CCM board certified case managers for 2 CE contact hours.
